Serial peripheral interface (SPI) is one of the most widely used interfaces between microcontroller and peripheral ICs such as sensors, ADCs, DACs, shift registers, SRAM, and others. Clock multiplexing is sometimes used to operate the same logic function with different clock sources. Doing this allows different effective data rate to be used as well as different power dissipation. The slave will hopefully be taped out in GF180 while master will be configured on fpga for testing purposes.
